Minimally invasive surgeries (e.g., laparoscopic or robotic surgeries) have been accepted and standardized as safe procedures, with comparable or better results compared to conventional open surgeries for managing various diseases of the intra-abdominal organs. Likewise, laparoscopic approach for pancreas and biliary disease is performed more frequently.
Nevertheless, pure totally laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) is still not performed worldwide because of the complexity of the procedure. However, most of the meta analyses found that LPD were feasible and oncologically safe procedures.
When it comes to oncologic issues in laparoscopic PD, most publications report similar oncologic outcomes between laparoscopic and open PD like in other organs. Recently studies on extent of lymph node dissection revealed that there are no differences in oncologic outcomes between standard PD and extended PD. Basic concepts for lymph node dissection are not different between laparoscopic PD and open PD.
In this presentation, I will present the technical aspects of lymph node dissection in laparoscopic PD and discuss about outcomes of laparoscopic PD in preiampullary tumor
