Introduction : It is still unclear to predict malignancy of branch duct type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of pancreas. The maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) in PET (positron emission tomography) was investigated to increase predictability of the malignancy in IPMNs.
Methods : Clinicopathologic factors, SUVmax, and predicting values of malignancy and invasiveness calculating by nomogram (http://statgen.snu.ac.kr/software/nomogramIPMN) were retrospectively analyzed in patients who underwent pancreatectomy due to branch duct type IPMNs at Severance Hospital between December 2005 and December 2014.
Results : A total of 94 patients were enrolled. Low and intermediate dysplasia were defined as benign IPMN. Malignant IPMN was defined as those with high grade dysplasia and associated invasive carcinoma. 52 (55.3%) patients were benign and 42 (44.7%) patients were malignant IPMN. Main duct size (5.4 vs. 8.4mm, p=0.004), tumor size (26.9 vs. 43. mm, p
Conclusions : When SUVmax value in PET is combined with nomogram, the malignancy predictability in pancreatic IPMN can be increased.
